Therapies backed up with science

Evidenced-Based Therapy, all day

Josh has extensive training and experience in a wide range of evidence-based therapies, all of which he draws upon in his practice. These include, but are not limited to, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Narrative Therapy.

‘Evidenced-Based’ means leading with the best research evidence to make informed decisions about the treatment a client receives.

Not a generic practice

At Skill Tree Psychology, every person gets a unique therapy plan made just for them. Josh takes the time to learn about a clients’ background, needs, and goals. The personalised plan considers their individual situation, past, preferences, and objectives. To provide top-notch care, the books will never be overloaded. This might mean a wait at first, but it fosters excellent treatment in the end.

Games as the icing on the cake of life, but not the cake itself

Skill Tree Psychology assists clients who are at risk, or already gaming problematically to find the optimal schedule for game time. This optimal schedule leads to gaming that facilitates more enjoyment and better performance without overplaying. Also, Josh bridges the knowledge gap of problem video game use in a way that avoids the backfire effect and improves communication at home.

Problem gaming is something that can affect children, teenagers, and adults. As such, Skill Tree Psychology adjusts the intervention to suit where an individual is in their lifespan. A treatment plan for the younger ones will centre around adjusting gaming behaviours to prioritise their critical development.

Treatment for adolescents and adults have a heavier focus on the cognitive side; cultivating the motivation to fulfil their needs in the real world, whilst re-discovering how gaming fits into their life.

Regaining a healthy balance with gaming for all ages

Brains are different, not disordered

Our approach to treating problem gaming (and other issues, of course) is neurodivergent affirming. Neurodivergent clients will have access to a service that embraces their strengths and is equipped with the skills, tools and strategies to facilitate blossoming , not just coping.

Neuro-affirming therapy is aware that each client is the expert on their own experience and holds space for the good and the bad that come with it. It allows neurodivergent communities to lead the way in determining the most appropriate language, treatment intervention, and resources rather than telling them what they need based on neurotypical expectations.
